When life changes, where do you start?

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing that something needs to change. It’s knowing what to do next.

An aging parent may need more help. Someone may be returning home from hospital. Mobility may be changing. In-home care may be starting. Or you may want to prepare your home now so you can remain there later.

Do you need an occupational therapist? A designer? A contractor? Home-care support? Accessibility modifications? A renovation?

You don’t need to figure that out before calling us.

We look at the person, the home and what is changing, then help create a clear path forward.

The Founders

Healthcare understands the person.
Design understands the environment.

Living Thesis connects the two.

Living Thesis was founded as an equal partnership by Registered Psychiatric Nurse and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist Pamela Nahal and Registered Interior Designer Lori Sutherland Burns to bridge a gap between healthcare needs and the places where people actually live.

Together, they bring healthcare, aging-in-place, accessibility and built-environment expertise into one connected approach, helping people understand not only what they may need, but how those needs can translate into their home.

Pamela brings 18 years of healthcare experience: the mental-health, human-needs and aging-in-place perspective as an RPN and CAPS professional. Her lens helps the team understand changing abilities, cognitive and behavioural needs, caregiving and family dynamics. Lori brings the built-environment perspective through 25+ years in interior design, RID and NCIDQ credentials, accessibility experience, and her work as BCIT Program Head and educator in senior living, inclusive environments and adaptive design.

Our Story

Growing older doesn't change who you are.

You still want friendship, privacy, beauty, independence, family, choice and a home that feels like yours.

Living Thesis grew from two different perspectives, design and healthcare, and one shared belief: the places where we age can do far more to support the people we remain throughout our lives.

We aren't designing for an age. We're designing for people, and for the lives they still have to live.

The Living Thesis Belief

"Home should never be the barrier. When life changes, the answer should not be uncertainty. It should be a clear path forward."

The Pillars

A quiet philosophy, quietly consistent.

Ten pillars guide every recommendation, collaboration, and home we help evolve. Four of them, briefly.

01

Home is the foundation of health

Where we live shapes independence, mobility, recovery, connection, and quality of life.

02

Homes should evolve with the people in them

Aging, changing mobility, disability, or a return from hospital should not mean leaving the place you love.

03

Evidence informs better decisions

Our recommendations draw on established professional knowledge, research, and lived experience.

04

People need a guide, not more information

We turn complexity into a clear, sequenced plan you can actually follow.

The Living Thesis Method

A clear path from uncertainty to action.

A healthcare or accessibility recommendation can identify a need without answering what it means for the home. The Blueprint connects the next steps: what should change, what comes first, what can wait, and which professionals need to be involved.

  1. 01
    Understand
We learn about the person, family, home and what has changed.
  2. 02
    Assess
We evaluate how the home supports daily life and where barriers may exist.
  3. 03
    Plan
We prioritize what should happen now, what can wait and what comes next.
  4. 04
    Assemble
We help identify and coordinate the right additional professionals.
  5. 05
    Design + Implement
We can help move physical recommendations into coordinated action.
